10m RH still odd 
 
We note that the 10m RH still appears to still be acting 
as before, that is it still reads higher than would be 
expected from a normal profile, particularly during the 
day.  While this could perhaps be real, we are going to 
switch the 10m with a lower level to further check. 
 
 

PSYC CHANGE, 10m with 2m: 
 
	The 10m psyc was changed with 
the 2m psyc at 15:40 GMT. 
 

Moved pressure port. 
Pressure port was on 4M psyc. 
Moved to 2M psyc.Approx 1700 Z. 
  
 

EGG SIGNALS: 
 
	At this time the EGG signals are not 
being collected. They will be hooked up 
tomorrow. 
 

2m HUMITTER 
 
	Julian date 41. The 2m humitter 
went south for about 5 hours this morning. 
From about 5z to 10z. Then appeared to get 
its bearings and fell back into line. 
 

EGG t. 
	 
	The EGG t is now running. 
There is still some noise on both it 
and on the dp.Also the t seems to be 
a little low compared to the 1m psyc. 
The problem was that the filter amplifier 
was being driven high by its switch chip. 
 

EGG  
 
	The EG&G dewpointer is now operating. 
Covar started with new data started at approx. 
20:45z.Wires were switched inaccurately from  
the 10mv signal to the 0-5v signal around 16z. 
Were rewired correctly at approx 20z.Between 
20z and 2045, the preprocessing of the data was 
altered in prep.config. The old data for channels 
113 and 114 on ragwort are as follows.

Removed 10m psychrometer and cleaned humitter 
element in alcohol.  Replaced on mast and

finished pam intercomparison number 7 calibration. 
 
Replaced unit with intercomparison unit number 55 
at 2222 GMT 
 

17:45 gmt, jday 55 
Brought down 2 meter humitter (psyc.2m). 
Cleaned the transducer element with a cotton swab and 
alcohol.  Cut out a new Gore-Tex cover and replaced 
it. 
 
Hung it back up by 18:05 
 

Removing the Asman intercomparison unit number 55 
 At 1730 cst I remove the Asman intercomparison unit to take it to Kansas City 
 tomorrow. On Wednesday I will bring back another unit for 
 intercomparison with the ASTER array. 
 
 

Attached PAM psychrometer #35 to psyc.1am at 16:08 gmt 
 
There has been no unit attached to psyc.1am since yesterday 
morning. 
 

 
Took down 10m humitter (unit 51) at 17:50Z, day 057. 
Disconnected plugs on boom to let any 
moisture evaporate. 
 
Cleaned transducer element with alcohol. 
Replaced GoreTex filter wrap. 
 
Replaced unit on tower at 18:13 Z, and it 
is now working. 
 
 

SWITCHING HUNCHROMETERS 1am for 10m 
 Between 1620-1640 cst (2220-2240z) the humchrometers at station 1am and 
 10m were interchanged. 
 
 

Removed PAM psychrometer unit #51 at psyc.1am. 
Replaced it with unit #55, at 21:50Z, day 59. 
 
#55 has been here before - but got rain damaged. 
Be sure to remove it if (it ever) rains! 
 

IC unit 55: 
 
	The humitter on IC 55 was cleaned with 
alcohol and a Vaisala filter added to it. 
This occurred at 16:20 GMT. 
 

IC unit 55: 
 
	The PAM intercomparison unit has been 
removed from the array at about 21:05Z. 
 

INC unit 55: 
 
	The PAM IC unit 55 was hooked backup 
on psyc.1am about 10 minutes ago; 22:05Z. 
 

7M PSYC DOWN & 2M RH ?: 
 
	The 7m psyc went down last night 
at about 3:30Z. Power was recycled and it 
came back to life, 14:15Z. 
	The 2m rh looked funny throughout 
the night. It is looking good now. 
 

PSYC IC UNIT: 
 
	IC unit 32 was added to network 
last night around 00:00Z. 
 

2M PSYC: 
 
	Like the 1m prop, the 2m psyc 
fixed itself while being examined. There 
was no visible dirt on the transducer, and 
the transducer was firmly attached. 
 

2M RH MISBEHAVING: 
 
	The 2m rh is jumping around. 
Looks like a connector problem. 
 

2M PSYC FIX: 
 
	The connector between the humitter 
transducer and its electronics was intermittent. 
When the sheild was tighten down all the way it would 
move the transducer. The sensor looks good now. 
Installed at 22:45Z. 
 

2M PSYC STATUS: 
 
	The 2m rh started acting up again. 
So major surgery was done on the humitter. 
The patient died! 
We will try to get our spare psyc back from 
PAM. The broken psyc will be installed so 
we are getting temperature data. 
Installed at 23:00Z. 
 

2M RH RUNNING: 
 
	A new psychrometer was installed 
in the 2m beehive. Sensor id 58 was replaced 
with 51. This occurred at about 20:00Z. 
 

PSYC IC UNIT REMOVED: 
 
	The psyc ic unit was removed 
yesterday for PAM IC tests. It will not 
be put back on. Removal occurred at about 
15:00Z. 
 

PSYC IC TEST: 
 
	A special psychrometer intercomparison 
test was started at 16:10Z. All psycs are at 
the 1m height. The test will continue until 
tomorrow. Archiving and covars are running. 
 

Don't trust some temperature/humidity profiles. 
 
After trying to get the Bowen ratio and flux-profile relations to  
compare reasonably with eddy-correlation flux estimates, I have 
found that several of the T/RH profile levels are suspect.   
 
fun.Tddiff.plot(50) shows a case when the 10m temperature is bad and 
fun.RHdiff.plot(50,7) shows that the 2m RH is bad during this period, thus 
fun.qdiff.plot(50,.5) shows bad q's from 2m and 10m.   
 
Also, it is not too obvious, but fun.RHdiff.plot(60) shows the 4m RH is 
slightly off, and thus crosses zero early at 15Z.  The Bowen ratio calculated 
from (T7-T1)/(q7-q1) agreed much better than (T7-T4)/(q7-q4) with the  
eddy-correlation ratio w'T'/w'q' for this period.  (Of course, "T" here is 
potential temperature.)  Thus, I ended up using 1,4,7 for flux-profile 
relations and just 1,7 for Bowen ratios...Steve
